The Assam Public Service Commission has published a notification regarding the selection of officers for various services in Assam. They will hold a Competitive Examination in 2017 to select candidates on the basis of merit.

Conditions for APSC Exam Eligibility 2017
Nationality: To apply for the Public Service Commission, Assam you must be an Indian citizen.
Age Limit:
The age limit of the candidates will be calculated on the basis of the Matriculation /HSLC Admit Card/Certificate issued by a recognized Board/Council, and no other document shall be accepted in lieu thereof for the purpose.
APSC age limit for general category is 21 years to 43 years. A candidate must not be less than 21 years and more than 43years of age as on 01.01.2016.
The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates i.e. up to 48 years.
There will also be a relaxation of upper age limit in respect of Persons with Disability by 5 years i.e. up to 48 years.
For Assam Police Service category, age limit will be counted as 38 years as on 01/01/2016 (43 years in case of SC/ST and PWD candidates).
Educational Qualification:
The candidate must hold a Degree from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess such qualification as may be declared equivalent by the Government.

A candidate should not submit more than one application.

- Original Treasury Receipt for payment of fees
- One copy of recent passport size photograph to be pasted on the space provided in the application form. Do not staple the photograph.
- Age- proof certificate (Admit Card / Certificate of HSLC or equivalent exam)
- Degree Pass Certificate
- Caste Certificate in respect of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC community issued by competent authority.
- ID Card/Certificate in respect of PWD candidates issued by competent authority.
The envelope sending the application should be superscripted
‘Combined Competitive (Prel.) Examination,2016’ on the top of the envelope. The size of the form is approximately 21cm× 34 cm.
The applicant shall furnish photostat copies of the above-mentioned documents declared by the candidate himself/ herself as
‘Certified to be true copy of the original’ along with the application.
PWD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates are to inform the Commission in writing, for services of scribe, if required, within one month of the expiry of the closing date for submission of application. Applications not signed by the candidates will be summarily rejected.
Candidates whether in Govt. service or in the service of Govt. undertaking/ Banks/ Corporation/ Bodies/ private employment should forward his/her applications through his/her controlling officer/employer.
Last Date to Apply: Application for the Preliminary Examination duly filled will be received till 09.02.2017 only.
Examination Fees:
To appear in the APSC Combined Competitive (Prelim.) Examination, you have to pay a fee of Rs.300.00 (Rupees Three Hundred only).
For candidates belonging to S.C./S.T. community fee is Rs. 150.00 under the Head of Account viz., ‘NON-TAX REVENUE OTHER NON TAX REVENUE, 0051 PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION, 102 STATE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION, APPLICATION/EXAMINATION FEE RECEIPT OF ASSAM PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION’.
Only Treasury challan shall be accepted.

APSC Exam Pattern:
The Combined Competitive Examination consists of two successive stages:-
- The Preliminary Examination
- The Main Examination (written & interview)
Preliminary Examination:
This Examination is meant to serve as a screening test only. After clearing the Preliminary Examination, a candidate is qualified for admission to the Main Examination. Marks obtained in this exam will not be counted for determining the final order of merit.
The questions will be of objective type with multiple choices. OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheet will be provided for answering questions. Candidates will have to use ONLY BLACK BALL PEN.
USE OF ERASER, CHEMICAL, CORRECTION FLUID etc. in the OMR answer sheet is prohibited and answer sheets bearing traces of such use shall not be evaluated.
The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of objective type multiple choice questions of two hours duration each.

Second Paper of APSC Preliminary Exam is a multiple choice objective question paper. There are total 28 Subjects and you have to choose only one. You will get 02 hours to solve the paper of optional subjects for 200 marks.

Cultivable fin and shell fishes. * Soil and water quality for fish culture. Manuring and fertilization of fish pond. Management of soil quality for aquaculture. * Inland water bodies - physical, chemical and biological properties of water in relation to aquaculture. Biological communities of inland waters. Common groups of phyto and zoo planktons. * Pond for fish culture. Main Examination:
After successfully passed in the Preliminary Examination, a candidate has to apply for the main examination in the prescribed application form.
Those candidates selected to appear in the Main Examination will have to pay another Examination fee to be fixed in due course, separately by Treasury challan under the same head of Account specifying the fee as C.C. (Main) Examination Fee, 2016.
Process of APSC Main Examination:
On the results of the Preliminary Examination, the number of candidates to be admitted to the written part of the Main Examination will be 11 to 12 times the number of vacancies notified. The selection will be strictly on the basis of merit adhering to the norms of Vertical and Horizontal Reservation as per prescribed law in force.
The Main Examination consists of-
- Written Examination and
- Interview Test.
Pattern of Written Examination:
The questions of the examination will be of conventional type.
The written examination will consist of the following papers of 3 hours duration each.

APSC Exam Syllabus for 2017 Mains:
APSC has published the syllabus for CC Main Examination 2017 on their official website. There are 06 papers for 04 subjects in the main exam. each subject and paper has a different syllabus.

Essay Writing, Precis writing on unseen passage, Comprehension, and Expression, Correction of Common Error, Usage of Vocabulary, Test of Ability of the candidates to write the substance in correct and precise language avoiding the inessential points.
#2 Syllabus for General Studies:
Indian Polity, Political System in India, Indian Economy and Geography of India and Assam, Role and impact of Science and Technology in India, Planning process in India, Current Events of National and International events, Indian Culture, Ancient and Modern History of India.
#3 Syllabus for Optional Subjects:
There are total 36 optional subjects including 08 MIL. You have to choose only 02. Thes papers are not easy to crack. So, we recommend you to learn the official syllabus and start your preparation as early as possible. You can download the syllabus of your preferable subject

Process of Viva-Voice Interview:
Total Marks- 200
On the results of the written part of the Main Examination, the number of candidates to be called for interview will be about twice the number of vacancies advertised.
The selection will be strictly on the basis of merit adhering to the norms of Vertical and Horizontal Reservation as per prescribed law in force.
The candidates will be interviewed by a board. The interview, however, will not have any qualifying marks.
The marks scored at the interview will be added to the marks scored in the written Examination (Main) and the ranking of the candidates will be determined on the basis of the total marks obtained.
Admission certificates (ADMIT CARD)
Commission takes up the verification of eligibility conditions only after the candidates have qualified for the Main Examination.
Admission certificate indicating the eligible candidate’s Roll no., venue and program of the exam will be uploaded in the Commission’s website, for appearing in the Preliminary/Main examination.
Candidates must produce a photo identity proof of any of the following in the examination hall:
- Pan Card
- Driving License
- Voters ID card
- Bank Passbook containing photograph
- ID Card issued by the educational Institution where he/she is studying presently
- ID card issued by Government or public sector undertaking.

Date of Preliminary Exam:
Latest updates regarding the current status of the tentative schedule will be published on the website of the Assam Public Service Commission from time to time as and when its website becomes operational. The schedule will be available at www.apsc.nic.in w.e.f. 05.01.2017.
Tentative Schedule is proposed assuming that proper requisition will be received for the concerned posts in stipulated time from the Government.
There may be some more Examinations/Viva-voce during the year, hence, the schedule may change.
Further, the schedule may also change when an opinion from the Government/Legal Expert is received regarding declaration of pending results of some interviews already held.
Date of Preliminary and Main Examination will be notified in due course. However, Examination has been tentatively scheduled in the month of May 2017.
The centers and the date (even after it is notified) for holding examination may, however be changed by the Commission at its discretion.
Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time place or places of examination.
Preparation Methods for APSC 2017:
Less than 10% candidates qualifies in the APSC Exam. So, it is cleare that the level of the exam is to high to achieve.
This is the main reason to prepare for the exam in an extra effort.
You should
collect the study matterials as early as possible. Collect the best study books, practice sets and previous years question papers.
Along with your study according to the latest syllabus, you should solve practice papers regularly. Solving practice sets you can increase your believe level.
